An Art of Survival public-impact initiative

Mass violence is not inevitable. Prevention starts before the emergency.

The Gun Violence Reduction Program translates credible violence-prevention research into clear public education. We help students, families, schools, workplaces, creators, and community leaders understand concerning situations, act without vigilantism, and connect people to qualified help.

WHAT PREVENTION MEANS

Qualified human judgment—not profiles or prediction.

Prevention is not predicting who will become violent. It is noticing concrete behavior and circumstances, taking communications seriously, strengthening support, and getting concerns to the people equipped to assess and manage them.

There is no responsible shortcut based on a person's appearance, identity, diagnosis, beliefs, or social category. A single behavior does not determine dangerousness. Context matters, and qualified human judgment matters.

GVRP does not investigate people, accept threat reports, maintain watchlists, or assign danger scores. Our role is education, connection, and responsible public engagement.

A MEMORABLE PUBLIC ACTION MODEL

Notice. Preserve. Route.

01

Notice

Pay attention to concrete words, actions, and meaningful changes in context. Take threats, communicated plans, escalating fixation, and signs of severe crisis seriously without turning rumor or stereotypes into evidence.

02

Preserve

If it is safe and lawful, keep the exact words, relevant context, time, URL, or original communication. Do not provoke, confront, publicly repost, dox, or launch your own investigation.

03

Route

Send the concern to the right qualified channel. That may be 911, 988, a trusted adult, an official school or workplace process, a multidisciplinary team, a platform safety channel, or another verified authority.

SAFE ROUTING

Use the right channel.

Immediate danger

Move to safety if possible and call 911 when violence is in progress, a weapon is present, a threat is specific and imminent, or danger is immediate.

Claim GVRP-C011

Suicidal or emotional crisis

Call or text 988 or use 988 chat . Call 911 if danger becomes imminent.

Claims GVRP-C009, GVRP-C010

School or workplace concern

Use the institution's official reporting, safeguarding, security, HR, safety, or behavioral-threat-assessment pathway. Students should also tell a trusted adult.

Concerning online content

Use the platform's safety-reporting tools. Contact 911 when danger may be imminent. Preserve exact public context without reposting, provoking, doxing, or conducting an amateur investigation.

AUDIENCE PATHWAYS

Shared responsibility. Different roles.

Students & Peers

You are not expected to decide whether someone is dangerous. Preserve what you actually saw or heard and bring it to a trusted adult or official reporting channel.

Families & Caregivers

The goal is not accusation. It is early support, careful documentation, and connection to qualified help.

Schools & Organizations

Effective prevention depends on clear pathways, trained multidisciplinary teams, fair assessment, support, documentation, and follow-through.

Community Leaders & Practitioners

Public education should complement qualified local services, institutional teams, crisis resources, and community violence-prevention work.

ACTION HUB · UNDER DEVELOPMENT

PATERSON IMPLEMENTATION TRACK

National learning. Local relationships.

Paterson, New Jersey is GVRP's planned local implementation and learning track. The near-term work is listening: understanding existing services, gaps, trusted messengers, institutional pathways, and where public education could responsibly add value. GVRP is not yet representing a Paterson coalition, local service network, or field operation.

Discuss the Paterson track

Creators and public figures

Help distribute approved education through accurate scripts, respectful delivery, audience fit, accessibility, and clear disclosure.

Responsible support

Explore support for expert review, accessible education, community listening, and educational media without controlling evidence or safety guidance.

General education

Share a non-case-specific question or website correction after the approved inquiry system is activated.

Do not use these forms to report a threat, emergency, allegation, person of concern, medical crisis, student matter, or evidence. GVRP is not a reporting or emergency service.

MEASUREMENT AND TRANSPARENCY

Outputs are not outcomes.

Views, completed modules, source use, inquiries, and creator participation are engagement measures—not proof that violence was prevented. GVRP will publish material sources, disclose relevant sponsors and relationships, correct meaningful errors, and avoid claims that exceed the evidence.
